The Under 12′s made a fine start to the New Year with a 6 – 0 win over Passage at Eastcliff.  Although they have two games more played than second placed St Marys, they have an 8 points lead at the top of Division 4.

The Under 13 Division 2 side had a crucial tie at home to St Marys where they were 2 – 1 winners which means they now join St Marys in joint third sport.

The Division 4 side also had an important victory away to Corinthian Boys B, winning 0 – 1 which keeps them well clear in second spot.

The Under 14 Division 2 side were well beaten on their travels to Carrigaline Hibs but the A side had another great victory. This time it was a 1 – 4 away win at Youghal United. Indeed if they had taken all their chances it could have been a cricket score but the lads are sitting pretty at the top of Division 5 with a  6 points lead.

It was Cup time for the Under 14 Girls, who travelled to Ballinhassig to play their A side and it was really a no contest as Riverstown ran out 0 – 9 winner.

It was another defeat for the Under 16′s as they fell to Midleton A at GACA.

The Under 16 Girls also travelled to Youghal for their League game but despite playing some great football, their lack of firepower up front is costing them points as they were defeated 2 – 0.

The Youths team who have been having a very good season to date, came a cropper at St Marys. Despite having most of the possession, it just wasn’t their day as they were defeated 2 – 1. It was the same story in the Munster Youths Cup 4th Rd where the lads travelled to Abbeyfeale to play the local side, and despite having the majority of possession, were unable to put it on the scoresheet and eventually they went down 2 – 1.

The Under 17′s travelled to Everton, and on what is probably the worst pitch in the League, drew 2 – 2 with Eoghan Gilroy getting both goals.

Last Man Standing…..

Congratulations to Eddie O’Brien who is our first winner of Last Man Standing. It was down to the last three but Arsenal’s win and Chelsea losing and Bolton’s draw meant that Eddie was a clear winner.

There is no such thing as a sure thing in football as Spurs proved on Saturday as they were a banker for many of the entrants but a draw at home against Wolves meant a big list of fallers on the first week. Man United proved a safe bet but of course those who picked them today, can’t chose them for the rest of the competition…….and next weekend’s fixtures look like a real minefield!!

LAST MAN STANDING

It’s a game of survival where you pick your dead cert from the next round of Premier League games, if you’re right and that team wins then you move on to the next round and the game keeps going in this manner until there’s only one person left. That’s the person we call the winner. The trick is that you can only pick each team once so you’ll need to be able to spot the shocks as well as the certainties if you want to keep playing

How to play:

  1. This Tournament is based on weekend games (fixtures played on Saturdays, Sundays & Mondays only to count) in the FA Premiership.
  2. It’s simple;  just pick the winner of one (1) Premier League match each week. If your selection wins you progress to the next week, lose or draw and you’re out.
  3. Once a selection is made, you will not have the ability to change it.
  4. You cannot pick the same team to win more than once during the tournament (unless the tournament progresses past 20 weeks)
  5. All selections must be made e-mail to riverstownfc@gmail.com or text to 087-6237870 NO LATER THAN 8.00pm ON THE FRIDAY BEFORE THAT WEEKEND’S GAMES.
  6. Should you forget to make you selection or are not contactable in any week, you are automatically out of the competition.
  7. In  the event that any match involving a team you have selected is postponed or cancelled for any reason, you will continue to the next round.
  8. Should two or more participants remain standing and all are eliminated in the same week, the Last Man Standing prize will be distributed equally among them.
  9. Should a tournament not have reached a conclusion by the end of the season, the tournament will continue on in to the next Season. Any relegated teams that you had not selected yet will be lost, but promoted teams will then be available.

Each Tournament costs €10.00 and this must be paid before the first match is played in a new Tournament. Results will be published weekly on the website riverstownfc.com.

Riverstown FC

We are Riverstown F.C. a Soccer Club in Glanmire, Co.Cork, Ireland

We cater for boys and girls aged 6 - 18

Riverstown F.C. was formed in 1994 to facilitate and promote the development of Soccer in the Riverstown/Glanmire area, a growing suburb of Cork City.

That objective continues to be the underlying focus in all the activities that the Club undertakes. We are fortunate in the time, enthusiam and committment that the adult members of the Club gladly give to the youth of the parish.
